There are countless DVD’s out on the market that focus on the art of card flourishing. Many are rich in visual “eye candy” but very difficult to master. Then there are the select few that look fantastic but are much simpler to master. hedshot Aaron Fisher’s One-Hand Popover is a beautiful piece of slight of hand that can be used as a visual production, a slight or even just a flourish. It combines elements that many magicians use everyday combined with Aaron’s incredible insight and teaching to create a fantastic piece of magic. The DVD is broken down into sections to focus all the attention on the most important parts of the move.  The Grip, The Popover itself, and then taking the actual move an applying it to effects and routines, both as a visual production and a slight.

THESYSTEM

Are you ready to learn The System? [Fake] video testimonials on the DVD show how a selection of self proclaimed low-lives were transformed by learning The Dan and Dave System – including R. Paul Wilson…

Aside from the addition of these videos, and (I think) a revised section teaching the Molecule Cut, (Easter Eggs?), the only difference between The (original) System DVD and the Special Edition release is a partially updated DVD interface.

Now for those of you never exposed to the original System DVD, you’re in for some real taxing finger treats. This stuff is not easy to learn; luckily, you are provided with two different instructional camera angles and variable speeds for watching the interweaving of various packets between fingers.

As much as I like the instructional style of The System DVD, despite how ‘different’ and helpful it is, I actually prefer the teaching done on the Buck Twins’ new DVD series, The Trilogy.

THETRILOGY

When the subtitle of a product is so long that it doesn’t even fit on the page, you know this is something to take a look at.

The long awaited ‘Trilogy’ from Dan and Dave Buck is finally here and rocking the boundaries in card work in every direction.

At one point, I was foolish enough to think I could master one of the flourish-laden, eye-popping routines… And I was right! Dan and Dave not only give helpful, close up shots of the work at hand, but most of the segments also include Over the Shoulder (OTS) shots of how the moves look from your POV.

As for the overall DVD interface, the ‘tricks’ DVD and the ‘flourishes’ DVD share a fairly similar look and conveniently separate each item’s demonstration/preview of the effect from the instruction segment; in other words, you don’t have to bother with an extensive ‘chapter’ list and can still go directly where you want.

The ‘everythingelse’ DVD really is just ‘everything else’; how else do you describe a series including ‘deck spreads’, simple changes, and a plethera of other, uh, titbits. The ‘everythingelse’ DVD also includes ‘Flourishes 101′ which will bring comfort to those who’ve sat with white knuckled hands on their deck throughout the otherwise intermediate/expert level material.
