I’m a writer. When I am not posting iTricks I write science fiction and fantasy novels so I am no stranger to putting odd words down on the page… Still, sometimes I jot something down and have to just stop and say “Now that is something I never expected to write!” The headline to this story is a perfect example! Thanks to Kevin Quantum for creating the situation by live-streaming his attempt to dodge nine flaming thirty pound cannonballs next Thursday (April 29). The stunt will be performed at the historic Edinburgh Castle and live-streamed on his YouTube page at 8 AM Eastern time.

Chris Cox is a mind reader… who can’t read minds. That doesn’t mean his show is bad, it just means he is more honest than the other mind readers who neglect to mention they can’t really read minds. The video above is from What’ Chris’ll bring his Fatal Distraction show to London’s Udderbelly Festival this Saturday night.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, History is backing up its upcoming Houdini movie with a special entitled Houdini Live, which will feature an escape stunt by Robert Gallup. Exactly what that will be has not been released.

The Times Of Israel recently interviewed 17 year old Daniel Rosenthal, high school junior and founder of Magic Is Medicine. His organization matches magicians with volunteering opportunities in hospitals.

Another magician helping others is having a bit of trouble himself. According to ABC News 13 in Asheville, NC, Ricky Boone, the founder of The Vanishing Wheelchair (a non-profit helping those with disabilities) was a victim of recent flooding. Boone is maintaining his positive attitude, though, and will still present his show this Friday through Sunday at the Asheville Community Center as part of the Weekend of Wonder.

The advertising design website Design Taxi recently covered the optical illusion (seen right) used by Audi to promote its new hazard detection system. Although the darker, blurry text reading “You’re driving. It’s dark. Suddenly” are easier to perceive when further away, as a driver approaches the billboard the words “A DEER!” will appear.

The Laughlin Entertainer spotlighted Rick Thomas (above) recently. The biggest surprise in the piece? Probably that among his biggest influences are Liberace and Freddie Mercury. Thomas has shows scheduled in Laughlin, Branson and Vegas this year; you can check his schedule for details.

Wanna hold your breath David Blaine style? recently covered the science, sport and technique of breath holding and freed diving.

Rachel vs Guy: Celebrity Cook Off premiered last night on Food Network. Team Rachel’s Penn had a banner night with his fire eating scoring big during the challenge to entertain a Medieval Times audience and his steak going over well, too.

In case you missed this past weekend’s New York Times Sunday Book Review, it was a look at Martin Gardner’s autobiography Undiluted Hocus-Pocus penned by Penn’s partner, magician turned Oscar contender Teller. If your neighbors swiped your copy of the Times again, the piece is available online.

ABC is re-running David Blaine: Real or Magic tomorrow (Wednesday, January 8) at 10 PM Eastern, but in a shortened, one hour form instead of the original 90 minute presentation.

Finally, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that in a world of multi-million dollar high tech attractions, theme parks such as Universal Studios Florida are still making big money with highly popular old school carnival games such as Whack-A-Mole and ring toss. Something to keep in mind, as it is way cheaper to add carnival games to an entertainment business than it is to build thrill rides with licensed characters!
