The footage above, from KPIX in San Francisco, shows magician and escape artist Zack Mirza performing an upside down straightjacket escape last Friday over the Justin Herman Plaza.
As reported last week, Friday was Roy Horn’s 70th birthday and the Las Vegas Sun has coverage of his celebration, which was held at 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque and included the cast of Michael Jackson One.
According to CBS Sports, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders is trying a variety of things to engage and motivate his players, including bringing in magician and motivational speaker The Amazing Hondo. You can learn more about Hondo at his website.
The New York Post is reporting that the warden that allowed David Blaine to come in and entertain prisoners at The Manhattan Detention Center in New York City has lost his job. They report that the performance was the reason for his dismissal; his superiors were upset that Blaine’s appearance had been made fun of by people such as Dvid Letterman.
Finally, iTricks tips its hat to Penguin Magic. After the most recent Tarbell: Every Trick In The Book lesson, on thumbtip magic, came out many magicians were no doubt looking at their battered tips and thinking about getting a new one. Penguin sent an email out to subscribers (and maybe everyone who had purchased the lesson, we are not sure) not to advertise their thumbtips but to give away gift certificates good for a free classic Vernet tip! Shipping was even included.

iTricks would like to wish Roy Horn, of Siegfried and Roy, a very happy birthday. We are kicking off video Friday with footage from earlier this summer when three new (adorable) lion cubs were introduced at S&R’s Secret Garden at The Mirage. After all, these cats are a real point of pride for the duo and you have to admit they are awfully cute. The cubs are adorable, too.

It may only be September (or, as they say in German “September“) but the Hofbrauhaus in Las Vegas is already starting Oktoberfest! The video above (from KNTV) shows them kicking it off last Friday with special guest keg tappers Siegfried and Roy. It is always good to see the the Masters Of The Impossible!
Speaking of Vegas, Robin Leach in The Las Vegas Sun recently mentioned that Murray SawChuck made a surprise appearance at Deanna Martin’s show to welcome her back to Sin City.
Magic Castle medium (and voice actress) Misty Lee is scheduled for Thursday’s episode of Today’s Inspiring Women with Deanne DeMarco. The show airs at Noon Pacific and you should be able to listen live (or for a while as an archive) the the show’s official VoiceAmerica website.
Finally, Mat Franco on NBC’s America’s Got Talent (with the final tomorrow) and new episode of SyFy’s Wizard Wars tonight, Penn and Teller’s Fool Us tomorrow and new Masters of Illusions (both on The CW) Friday. Looking ahead, next week brings a double shot of Fool Us!

On Monday night, which as iTricks told you was Houdini’s 140th birthday, Craig Ferguson took a little time to explain the difference between magicians and illusionists. It is not exactly the most adult (or mature) humor on the ol’ Interweb, the guy is on in the middle of the night for a reason, so be warned.
Sad news from Vegas, white tiger Mantecore has passed away. Most famous as the animal that injured Roy Horn on stage, it was Roy himself who broke the news on the Siegfried and Roy Facebook page with a touching tribute to the cat. Mantecore was 17.
More from Vegas, the Las Vegas Sun’s John Katsilometes has comments from Murray Sawchuck about being chucked from Nathan Burton’s show; he thinks his friendship with Burton’s ex-producer may be to blame. Nathan Burton still is not talking.
And from Suburban Chicago comes a nice feature on Jeanette Andrews in the Daily Herald. Among the topics discussed are her artist in residency experiences and collaborations with scientists. The 24 year old may not be a familiar name (yet), but you will be able to see her when Masters of Illusion runs later this year on CW.
