It’s Labor Day!

Posted by Michael on September 4th, 2017

And for many tricksters, that means we should be watching the Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon benefitting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (or maybe even performing in it)! So here’s a little magic with some familiar faces from the MDA Telethon back in about 1990.

You can learn more about the MDA or make a donation on their website.

NPH Works A Little Magic On LIVE! With Kelly

Posted by Michael on September 19th, 2016

Since Michael Strahan’s departure LIVE! has been rotating guest hosts to join Kelly Ripa. Last week Neil Patrick Harris was filling the co-host seat and decided to show Kelly a little magic.

Piff The Magic Dragon Is Golden

Posted by Michael on July 15th, 2015

Piff the Magic Dragon survived the America’s Got Talent judges’ cuts and rocketed ahead thanks to a golden buzzer from guest judge (and something of a magic expert) Neil Patrick Harris. Of course, Piff pulled out his furry secret weapon Mr. Piffles. WHO CAN RESIST MR. PIFFLES? Not me and not NPH.

NPH And The Stars

Posted by Michael on January 16th, 2015

Neil Patrick Harris is poised to perform some serious magic for the stars as host of the upcoming Academy Awards. There was some grumbling when this year’s nominations were announced that Selma was snubbed (it was nominated for Best Picture). Not that NPH has anything to do with the nominations, here he is with one of Selma‘s producers, Oprah, doing a little magic in his home.

NPH Hits AHS, Seidman Up For Entertainer Of The Year And More

Posted by Michael on January 8th, 2015

Up top today is the teaser for last night’s American Horror Story featuring Neil Patrick Harris. I do not watch the FX show but I gather he is playing the perfect kids’ party entertainer.

According to the Las Vegas Sun‘s Robin Leach, the crowd favorite in Murray’s new show is his cellphone inside balloon bit. Just goes to show you that fancy props and gorgeous assistants are not necessary for good magic… Of course, Murray has great props and a beautiful assistant, too.

Magician Ben Seidman is among the four finalist for Princess Cruises’ Entertainer of the Year title. He is up against a singer, comic and a guy that plays a crystal covered violinist named Marilyn. All four will play the Entertainer of the Year cruise in March.

Magic Crime, Anti-Crime And More [Magic Bulletin]

Posted by Michael on December 8th, 2014

While not exactly magic, today’s lead video is an example of optical illusion art from French sculptor Bernard Pras. It was attached to an article on the KERA (North Texas public media) website about the history of optical illusions in art.

In today’s WTF? Section we present this story from the Daily Mail via The Gulf News website which maintains that a London thief hypnotized a store owner before robbing him. You can read the story, which has some bad security camera video attached, on the Gulf News website.

On the flip side, trickster Emma tipped us off to this Kent Online piece about magician Rob James reverse pickpocketing people to remind them to be vigilant against crime.

Still haven’t decided if Neil Patrick Harris’ new autobiography is the right read for you? The Buffalo News posted a short, well rounded review with a nice taste of what you will find inside Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography. It also may be the originator of the term “Harrenaissance.”

The NY Post takes a much less favorable look at another famous Hollywood amateur magician when it discusses the new documentary on Orson Welles. The piece is much more a summary of Welles’ troubled career than a discussion of Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles.

Finally, the BBC’s Scotland Business section took a look at life in the entertainment industry, which included a chat with magician Mark Walbank.

NPH on AHS, Murray, Ponzi Schemes And More [Magic Bulletin]

It’s the Halloween Magic Bulletin, kicking off with this footage of Greg Gleason cutting WXIN’s Angela Ganote in half. I think my favorite part is the weatherman running out for a selfie… Greg is part of the Masters of Illusion tour that is making its way across North America. More info on that here.

International Business Times reports that not only will Neil Patrick Harris make an appearance on the new season of American Horror Story, husband David Burtka will have a role as well.

Another magician is in legal trouble, according to the brokerage news site FXPips.com which reports nursing home magician Paul Burks has been indicted over accusations that his penny auction site is actually a Ponzi scheme.

The Las Vegas Sun’s John Katsilometes (a name I now can spell by heart) was reporting on Murray SawChuck’s final show at the Trop and mentioned that he showed clips from his new pilot Have Magic, Will Travel. Still no word on Murray’s new venue…
