Cendrillon, A Méliès Film

Posted by Michael on January 10th, 2018

We have shared plenty of short films from the legendary magician turned cinema pioneer Georges Méliès over the years, but we aren’t sure that we have ever posted (or even seen) Cendrillon, his 1899 version of Cinderella. According to this recent SyFy Wire article, the film is the world’s first fantasy movie. This version features original music from YouTube user Andrew LaCombe.

Méliès is also credited by many with the first horror movie Le Manior Du Diable (The Haunted Castle, 1896) and the first science fiction film La Voyage Dans La Lun (A Trip To The Moon, 1902)

Long time magic dealer Phil Klein (US Toy Magic) is also the film maker driving the effort to get Bob Klamm’s life turned into a feature film. He recently posted one of his previous works, the award winning short film Easy Business, on the Lime Light Cinema YouTube page. It’s a bit long, but it is a great way to pass a Friday afternoon waiting for the weekend….

The Devil’s Castle (1896)

Posted by Michael on October 19th, 2017

Credited in the Reel Rundown article The First 13 Horror Films in Recorded History as the first true horror movie, magician Georges Méliès directed The Devil’s Castle in 1896. Many of his early special effects were inspired by (merely filmed versions of) his stage effects.

Seems like a great clip to run with less than two weeks until Halloween!

David Copperfield and Jamie Lee Curtis

Okay, we can’t exactly use the word “classic” in good conscience with this clip, but we have a soft spot in our hearts for 1980′s Terror Train, starring the 1980′s greatest scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis and this weekend’s birthday boy, David Copperfield.

Have a great (and safe) weekend y’all! And David: you have a happy birthday!
