Created by magician Andrew Mayne, iTricks.TV was intended to solve a personal desire, “I’m a magic addict and love to see new videos. Unfortunately there aren’t enough hours in the day to search through them all to find the best. If you’re a magic fan, what’s popular on YouTube is something you saw a year ago.” To find them, Mayne recruited a group of magic enthusiasts to filter through YouTube and other video site offerings to find the best videos and put them all in one convenient location. They help magic fans find hidden gems like a Doug Henning appearance on The Muppets and David Copperfield’s vanish of the Statue of Liberty and provide useful tagging information that makes the videos easier to find.

“iTricks.TV is a living thing,” said magician Eddy Ray who was a fan of the site before becoming an active contributer. “No more searching for that needle in a haystack. Now I can watch what I want when I want and there is no junk to sift through. iTricks.TV is pure magic.”

Besides aggregating videos into one location, iTricks.TV has also become a showcase for up and coming magicians looking to make a hit with fans of magic. When Adam Mada wanted to show off his Sleight series of web videos he went to iTricks.TV.

In a new feature here at iTricks, we are going to highlight one video per day from what’s been added in the last 24 hours on the new and improved iTricks.TV. For today’s pick, the combination of insane card moves and the natural elements takes the prize over Penn and Teller explaining sleight of hand, Lu Chen’s dove act and not to mention more Jerry and De’vo.

At lunchtime, or when he is walking the halls of his workplace, Roy Raphaeli’s colleagues often beseech him to do a magic trick. Usually, he obliges. “I take the opportunity to show people my new stuff and see how they react,” said Mr. Raphaeli, 23, a Brooklynite who works for a mail-order camera retailer.

While Mr. Raphaeli, known professionally as Magic Roy, has been entertaining people with card tricks and sleight-of-hand since he was 5, he does not perform at birthday parties or casino showrooms.

Instead, Mr. Raphaeli’s stage of choice is the Internet, where he has posted 30 short video clips to Metacafe, a Web site that pays video creators based on how many viewers their work attracts. So far, Mr. Raphaeli has earned more than $13,000 from the site, where his most popular card trick has been seen 1.4 million times.

What goes unmentioned, in an otherwise comprehensive piece, is the kind of audience one spurns by taking videos off YouTube and how that’s affects a possible move beyond the online video market not to mention how easy it is to spoof views on these sites. Still, an absolute must read if you’re making magic videos for internet distribution.

It seems that Virtual Magician Marco Tempest has spurned YouTube for upstart video hosting clearinghouse LiveVideo. His new series Magic4U featuring simple tricks for beginners is available only on LiveVideo as are his newest episodes of his popular PhoneCam Magic series. For those who don’t remember, one of the first joys of iTricks was the groundswelling of good natured if hilariously bizarre parodies that sprung up around the Swiss magician. They haven’t stopped and we can only hope they migrate to LiveVideo as well.

Mtv’s new sketch show The Human Giant is coming soon and they have leaked this sketch as a little preview. The hair and jewelry seem a little familiar and their tagline “Prepare your mind. For a mind explosion” also sounds similar to a certain Freak-centric performer.

Don’t you dare bad mouth Prince’s performance during the Super Bowl Halftime Show last night. Here is a reminder of just how good we have it, back in 1987 this was the spectacle put on during the Orange Bowl. Let’s just say it’s not Harry Blackstone’s finest hour. Then again, I don’t know if anyone could have pulled out of this tailspin.

One last note, both of these happened in Miami. Worth mentioning…

Liam was a star on Channel 4’s programme called Homemade!, a show made up of various video clips sent in by the public.

This was Liam’s fifth appearance on TV, having also featured on a number of occasions on Skyone last year.

With an impressive mix of unique skills, often combined with breakdancing and beatboxing, Liam is set to take the world of magic by storm with a hip and fresh vibe.

Liam has been performing since the tender age of 14 and, in recent years, has been found performing his breath-taking magic in many of the local pubs, clubs, schools and leisure centres throughout Sussex.

He is fast becoming known as The Club Magician and has wowed the crowds at the door of some of the hottest clubs in Brighton, including Creation, The Honey Club and The Beach as well as many more locations throughout Sussex and in London.

Also, he’s working on a DVD and is in negotiations with two radio stations. What a busy guy. Here’s a clip after the jump.
