Let’s just make it a Mac King day. Here is a circa 2000 interview with Mac, again from LViTV’s YouTube archive.
So here is the thing about Mac… I have never met him, spoken with him or even corresponded with him. But whenever anyone has asked me “What magician should I see in Vegas?” any age, any sex, any background Mac King is always on the list. Back in the day my aunt, grandmother and her sister (my great-aunt) would head to Vegas every year for the rodeo with a couple friends. My born in the boot heel of Missouri, Gaither gospel loving, Sunday school teaching gramma asked me for a good magic show to go see while she was there one year. Her and my great aunt gambled a little (I think) but didn’t drink and were not big on cursing or loud music, either. I immediately said “Go see Mac King’s day time show. You won’t miss any of the rodeo and I guarantee you will love him.”
They went; she loved him. She stuck around afterwards and talked to Mac, explaining her grandson was a magician (and I was performing back then) and had told her she had to go see him and she had the best time. Tricks With Your Head had just come out and he gave her (not sold her but gave her) an autographed copy to give me as a thank you. Ironically, I had already ordered a copy and it had arrived while she was in Vegas. Both copies sit next to my desk to this day.
