iTricks would like to extend all of the best to Lance Burton, master magician and champion of homeless animals, who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. What better way to have a little mini-party for Lance than this special video put together by the International Brotherhood of Magicians featuring his gold medal act.

Tour The NevadaSPCA With Lance Burton

Posted by Michael on March 9th, 2015

Students of the history of technology will tell you that the Internet as we know it today was built on personal webpages full of dog and cat pictures. Even today, puppy and kitty videos are a mainstay on sites such as YouTube. We are going to help keep the glorious tradition of Internet cat videos alive by passing along this tour of the NevadaSPCA’s facilities featuring many playful dogs, cats and a mustachioed Master Magician Lance Burton. Don’t worry, there is even a rabbit for any of you out there looking for a new hat jumper.

If you are interested in many, many more pictures of animals needing new homes, you should really follow Lance on Twitter.

Lance Burton Gets Out The Vote!

For the benefit of our international readers, who have not put up with several weeks of election commercials, it is Election Day here in the United States. We dug around to try to find a relevant video, maybe something of a magician running for office or even appearing at some political convention, and come up with this 2000 PSA from Lance Burton, He is not endorsing anyone or running for anything, just telling Clark County residents how to register and pointing out the 2010 registration deadline.

Lance Burton Headlines Upcoming Charity Show

Posted by Michael on August 26th, 2014

If you want to see Lance Burton, you have to keep a sharp eye out for his occasional charity performances. From Ben Stone’s Twitter feed comes this poster, advertising a benefit show for the Heaven Can Wait animal shelter in Las Vegas. The show, Variety Live, features several magicians including Kevin James, Victoria and Sos, Stan Allen, Jan Rouven, Xavier Mortimer and Lance Burton. Non magic acts include Stone, Jasmine Trias and others. As sharp eyed iTricksters will also notice that the shows is also honoring Tihany. The show is at the Orleans in Las Vegas on September 14. Even though it is only a couple of weeks away (more or less), there is little information to be found about the show. We tried the Orleans site and Heaven Can Wait’s website, but we have not found out any more information than can be gleaned from the poster. Still, we figure that any chance to see Lance Burton is worth posting!

Robin Leach is reporting in the Las Vegas Sun that casting will begin this weekend for Guard Dog, a new film written and directed by magician Rory Johnston and produced by him and magic legend Lance Burton. This family oriented film is not Lance’s first foray in films; his directorial debut Billy Topit is now in post-production. You can learn more about Guard Dog at its official website.

We are starting to see hype about the newest incarnation of Masters Of Illusion. The Baltimore Sun ran a featurette on Spencer Horsman recently which states he will be in the first and third episodes of the series. Masters Of Illusion premieres August 1st on the CW.

Speaking of TV, do not forget to check your local listings to catch David Copperfield on History’s American Restoration tonight.

The Hocus Pocus Project, the Conjuring Arts Research Center outreach programs which teaches magic to under privileged children, veterans and many others, is looking to massively expand their efforts. They have launched a new IndieGoGo Project (video above) seeking to raise a whopping $150,000. This will allow them to work with all 24 of the non-secure juvenile detention centers in New York. You can learn more here. Project thank you gifts include items from David Blaine, William Kalush and a personalized magic show on DVD from David Roth!

Magicana, the arts organization dedicated to magic, has a new series of blog entries by David Ben on the development of his new show Card Table Artifice, which will premiere at the Luminato Festival in Toronto on June 13 and 14. You can read the blog here and learn more about the Luminato Festival, which will include performances by here. Magicana is also involved with presenting Rob Drummond’s Bullet Catch and Rob Zebrecky at the festival.

Yesterday Lance Burton tweeted “Had fun. Did 13 minutes for a very nice audience.” That’s right, he came out of retirement for a special show benefitting the Nevada SPCA.

The Daily Mail’s website recently ran a story on David Copperfield’s island resort Musha Cay. Spoiler: it is really, really nice there.

While Britain’s Got Talent magician Darcy Oakes is making news for opening up about his brother’s drug overdose, the show itself is making some (unwanted) news for receiving some of its lowest ratings.

Finally, while A Million Ways To Die In The West with Neil Patrick Harris came in third over the weekend at the box office, NPH himself was awarded with a Drama Desk Award for Best Actor In A Musical (he tied with Jefferson Mays from A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder) while NPH’s play Hedwig And The Angry Inch also won for Best Revival Of A Musical.
