The Hocus Pocus Project, the Conjuring Arts Research Center outreach programs which teaches magic to under privileged children, veterans and many others, is looking to massively expand their efforts. They have launched a new IndieGoGo Project (video above) seeking to raise a whopping $150,000. This will allow them to work with all 24 of the non-secure juvenile detention centers in New York. You can learn more here. Project thank you gifts include items from David Blaine, William Kalush and a personalized magic show on DVD from David Roth!
Magicana, the arts organization dedicated to magic, has a new series of blog entries by David Ben on the development of his new show Card Table Artifice, which will premiere at the Luminato Festival in Toronto on June 13 and 14. You can read the blog here and learn more about the Luminato Festival, which will include performances by here. Magicana is also involved with presenting Rob Drummond’s Bullet Catch and Rob Zebrecky at the festival.
Yesterday Lance Burton tweeted “Had fun. Did 13 minutes for a very nice audience.” That’s right, he came out of retirement for a special show benefitting the Nevada SPCA.
The Daily Mail’s website recently ran a story on David Copperfield’s island resort Musha Cay. Spoiler: it is really, really nice there.
While Britain’s Got Talent magician Darcy Oakes is making news for opening up about his brother’s drug overdose, the show itself is making some (unwanted) news for receiving some of its lowest ratings.
Finally, while A Million Ways To Die In The West with Neil Patrick Harris came in third over the weekend at the box office, NPH himself was awarded with a Drama Desk Award for Best Actor In A Musical (he tied with Jefferson Mays from A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder) while NPH’s play Hedwig And The Angry Inch also won for Best Revival Of A Musical.

iTricks is sending birthday wishes to Lance Burton, who turns 54 today. He actually shares his birthday with a whole slew of famous people, including Carrie Underwood, Olivia Wilde, Timbaland, Rick Rubin (all younger than him), Sharon Stone and Shannon Tweed (older than him). It is also Chuck Norris’s birthday… he is 74 and can beat up everyone else who has today as a birthday, even if they all came at him at once. Seriously, he is super bad; he had his own designer jeans made for high kicking. That is awesome.
But we digress. Simple fact is Lance Burton is also awesome. He has performed for millions of people, he has had four network specials, won the FISM Grand Prix in 1982, works with kid magician and is by all accounts is just an all around good guy. And as we are highlighting above, he was on Knight Rider.
