Copperfield Restores Historic Flag And More [Magic Bulletin]

Above is the official video released by the National Museum of American History showing David Copperfield’s special Flag Day illusion with the historic flag flown over Fort McHenry during the War of 1812′s Battle of Baltimore. It is the very flag seen by Francis Scott Key which inspired him to write The Star Spangled Banner. There is plenty more coverage of this very special illusion on the New Jersey News 12 site, the New Jersey Fox 5 site and the Smithsonian website.

Magician Missing After River Escape Goes Wrong

We unfortunately have to start the day with some terrible news out of India: Chanchal Lahiri, using the stage name Jadugar Mandrake or Jadu Gar Mandrek, was bound by chains and rope before being lowered into the Ganges River Sunday. He did not return to the surface and a police search began. You can read more in the South China Morning Post, India Today and The Hindustan Times.

Alabama’s TV 47 ran this feature on David Merlin’s magic show at the Limbaugh Community Center in Childersburg, Alabama earlier this month. It is kind of nice to see a magic event covered as news instead of having the standard “magician in studio” promotion.

America’s Got Talent is previewing this week’s show with this complete audition from magician Dom Chambers. In a related story, Broadway World reports Chambers will be appearing at the Melbourne Magic Festival.

We pass along magic auctions but two trunks once belonging to Magic Circle member Cyril Bayliffe are getting more attention than just magic sites. The Daily Mail looked at some of the items up for bid at a London auction of Bayliffe’s props today.

The Gypsy Journal RV blog ran a feature over the weekend on the magic history and locations of Michigan.

Summer is officially on! Okay, it is not actually technically summer, but the summer magic TV season is on! AGT is back on NBC, Masters Of Illusions starts on The CW Friday and the network’s other big magic show, Penn and Teller: Fool Us returns June 17 and The CW finally released a promo!

The Hill has the story of David Copperfield’s next big illusion: restoring a historic flag in the Smithsonian Institute on June 14 (Flag Day).

All Things Branson has posted a half an hour interview with the Hamners, who star in one of Branson’s most popular magic variety shows.

Masters Of Illusions returns to the air tomorrow night and the Las Vegas Review-Journal took a look at which of the show’s performers are based in Sin City.
