A close call for one of the premiere escape artists in the game today.

According to a news release, Gunnarson was injured while attempting to escape after being handcuffed chained to the tracks of a Beijing roller-coaster.

He had freed himself and was attempting to dive to safety when the roller-coaster car, which was travelling at nearly 100 km/h, clipped his right foot.

He sustained a broken bone in his foot and some internal bleeding.

He was in hospital Tuesday in Beijing but was hoping to return to Canada by Wednesday.

The stunt was being filmed for a Chinese television special.

Brazil’s Got Talent – Escapology Edition

Posted by Editor on July 13th, 2010

Qual é o Seu Talento?’ (’Brazil’s take on the ‘Got Talent’ franchise) has received many Magicians already, but the 3rd Season of the show featured a Magician that did not perform Magic at all but still got the golden ticket (or green, if you will)  to the Semifinals of the show, expected to start airing around next October.

Fábio De’Rose performed his “scary as hell” as one of the judges points out,  rendition of the Straitjacket Escape. Upon first stepping the stage that has already welcomed (some not so well) more than thirty Magicians one of the judges wondered if it was supposed to be a Comedy Act. After joking about how tight was the jacket “down there“, Fabio was challenged to free himself out within 1 Minute and 40 Seconds. Not only he managed to escape from the jacket, but also from the oh-so-feared Red Lights.

For the Second Round, Fábio promises a breath-taking rendition to the Water Torture Cell, being chained and cuffed by the judges themselves.

Indian Escape Artist Performs “Great Blast Escape”

Posted by Editor on June 21st, 2010

We aren’t quite sure how this got as much press as we’ve seen for it, but Indian magician Anand Akash performed what he titled the “Great Blast Escape” this weekend. The concept and visuals are there, Akash is shackled, stuffed in a coffin and placed in the path of an oncoming truck. When the vehicle slams into the curtain-swaddled pine box, it explodes violently.

So what made the stunt so… meh? Check the video for yourself.

“Accidentaly a Magician” In São Paulo, Brazil

Posted by Fábio De'Rose on May 4th, 2010

Accidentaly a Magician

Five of the greatest Magical Artists of all time will gather at the tradicional and very disputed stage of the Sesc Pinheiros’ Theater in São Paulo – Brazil for a series of spectacular presentations that are not to be missed if you love performing arts, magic and theater.

The Great Patrick, an elegant Black Tie-styled magician is also the MC of the event and brings the audience some of the best classical magic of all time. On the opposite side, Professor Boff - a wacky scientist defies gravity and physics on a series of modern and magical experiments.

From the distant and mysterious China, comes Chung Ling Yu. Yu is  the absolute master of flower and silk magic, with a very colorful and charming presentation suited to honor his predecessors and keep the western tradition of Magic alive. More charming and mysterious than that is Isis, a beautiful Egyptian belly dancer that is “Dressed to Thrill” and amazes children and adults alike. The show ends with a homage to Harry Houdini, where Tony, The Eascapist defies death escaping from a locked steel box just seconds before running out of air.

Wait, did I mention that this incredible show does not feature one single, actual live person than the mesmerizing Miguel Nigro? Miguel is a masterful puppeteer and is the responsible for giving his puppets the gifts of life and magic at once – All five characters perform actual tricks, such as a Shadow Box and Sawing a Woman in Half.

One beautiful tribute to our beloved Magic, which has already thrilled hundreds of spectators and is set for two extra performances, next May 09th and 16th, both starting at 03:00 PM. Children and adults of all ages are very welcome.

Calling All Escapologists! World Record Set For Bringing Locked Handcuffs From Back Of Body To Front

Posted by Editor on April 9th, 2010

You might not be familiar with the Universal Records Database, so here is a primer. They believe everyone is the world is the best in the world at at something. They created a site where all you have to do is define your criteria for a record you’d like to set and have a friend watch you. Submit to the site and if it’s approved, you’ll get a patch in the mail commemorating your achievement.

It’s not all that hard. We’ve done it.

But like any record, they are made to be broken. Take Erica Lutz of Brooklyn, she just set the record for the fastest time brining a pair of locked handcuffs from the back of her body to the front. She did it in 4.1 seconds.

This is a site read by magicians and escape artists! Surely, someone reading this right now can snap on a pair of handcuffs and beat this record!
