Our recent obsession with Flavor Flav’s obsession with magic has another chapter. On the most recent episode of Mindfreak Criss Angel melted Flav’s face with this illusion.

This is the same episode where Criss’ attempted his Cement Shoes escape in front of a massive crowd in Lake Havasu. Think what you will about Criss, but that’s a lot of people gathered to watch a magic trick, for any young illusionist it certainly is something to aspire to.

Should Criss Angel be armed while judging the Miss Universe pageant?

Norm Clarke asks that question in his column today, piggybacking on a point made by Richard Abowitz earlier this week. To recap, Criss Angel is licensed to carry a firearm in the state of Nevada and Abowitz (no friend to Angel) questioned if Vegas tourists and regulars would feel safe knowing such information.

In today’s column Clarke references Angel flipping off a camera during the Miss USA pageant two years ago after his then-girlfriend was eliminated. What he oddly does not mention is an altercation he had with Angel after the event where the Mindfreak star threatened the columnist.

The question now is if his gun should be present while he judges Miss Universe, although we don’t know if he was planning on bringing it or if the casino would allow him in with it. Pageant organizers had no comment.

There should be no question that Abowitz and Clarke aren’t friendly with Camp Angel, but do you think they have a point?

On the other hand, is there any proof that Angel habitually carries his gun everywhere he goes and isn’t just licensed to have it? So far the closest we’ve gotten to that information is Abowitz citing rumors, which may in fact prove true, but have yet to be substantiated.

Criss Angel demo’d the new and improved Believe on America’s Got Talent last night (less bunnies! more magic!) and we have to admit it looked pretty good. Considering we’ve already seen it on Oprah and Mindfreak, we’re not sure how many more times in our life we need to see Angel break a speed record for an upside down straight jacket escape but the spectacle was there and the his signature metamorphosis played very well on the big stage.

Also, in unrelated news, Angel has been announced as a Miss Universe judge.

Vegas writer Richard Abowitz reports on his Gold Plated Door blog that Criss Angel carries a gun.

It’s not a secret that Abowitz isn’t exactly a Loyal, he’s repeatedly savaged Believe in epic prose and doesn’t write the magicians name without ticking off a few examples of less than exemplary behavior from the headliner, including the dust up between Angel and Norm Clarke. Not to say that Abowitz should keep those to himself, they happened, he has a right to mention it over and over and over again in his space.

With all that said it’s no surprise that Abowitz offers this “good samaritan” warning to Las Vegas party people:

So, Las Vegas if you don’t want a gun toting magician known for his bad temper slurping vodka in your nightclub, be sure to tell Criss Angel to leave the gun at home (and, that should go for any members of his family who might choose to be carrying a weapon as well).

We should not here that Angel is reportedly following the letter of the law with his sidearm and there is no indication on how much Criss carries his weapon.

Folks in the Los Angeles area will get chance to see a sampler platter of Cirque du Soleil shows on August 22nd for free including Criss Angel Believe. It all takes place at the Grove. There have been various reports as to how long the whole thing will last but the price is right. If you haven’t had the chance to drive to Vegas and see the show, check it out.

Mindfreak season six will be 2-discs, it will street on January 1st of next year and you haven’t seen but one sixth of what will be on it. The upside? If you were going to buy it anyhow it probably won’t get cheaper than it is right now on Amazon.

Robin Leach lyrically recounts the scene at the Liquidity bar last night as Mindfreak fans squeezed into the Luxor to watch the season six premiere with Criss Angel and his family. More importantly, look at that cake!

Are you ready? Seriously, if you didn’t know that the premiere of Mindfreak is on A&E at 10 p.m. EDT than the answer to that is a solemn, “no”. FYI.

In preparation for the new season of Mindfreak, Criss Angel takes the con as guest editor of YouTube today. Among his picks, are three magic clips. One is Richiardi’s Chamber of Horror and Illusion and the other two are of some upstart Greek magi from Long Island whom we hear is quite a big wheel on basic cable.

Non-magic clips include Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Ozzy Osbourne’s Dreamer and Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt.
