What Jonathan fails to mention in his YouTube post, but what you can read on the New Zealand Herald website or on Star News website is he won the Magician Challenge Trophy for best act in the evening show and awards for best comedy and best overall performance! At last weekend’s Academy of Magical Arts Awards, the Devant Award (which is presented by the Magic Circle) was given to the Larsen Family, which arguably is America’s first family of magic. Although the family has been responsible for more than simply the Magic Castle, it is probably the most recognized. This Genii Online piece goes into some of its history and founding.
This year’s Academy of Magical Arts Awards declared Derren Brown, who recently celebrated 20 years of television specials, the Magician of the Year. We can only hope that we will be seeing more of Derren’s TV work in the US over the next year!
