It seems as if David Copperfield has been everywhere lately and his greatest trick may be appearing on the Forbes Ones To Watch list, a select group of 15 poised to cross the billionaire threshold. The magazine currently estimates his fortune to be approximately $800 million, more than Madonna or golfer Phil Mickelson. Over the coming years he should be adding to this impressive nest egg thanks to his Vegas show, which grosses $50 million a year in ticket sales alone, shrewd real estate interests, marketing deals (such as the new line of slot machines bearing his likeness) and, of course, his massive private collection which extends beyond magic to include art and even an Oscar awarded for Casablanca. David Copperfield’s success shows not only that magic can be a lucrative career option but that the business side of an entertainment career should not be ignored.
