Robert-Houdin’s famous orange tree illusion is perhaps the most amazing routine of all time.

And now, it’s a birthday cake.

We received an email from Stephen Baker who told us a story about his quest for an epic magic-themed cake and how he ended up with what you see above thanks to master cake maker Annabel de Veten-Peterson.

What Annabel eventually created for Stephen’s party is photographed below and, for the avoidance of doubt, is neither a replica or actual orange tree – but a 3 and a half foot high sponge Birthday Cake. Everything on the table is edible including the handkerchief, butterflies, vanished ring and planter – which is a chocolate sponge. The orange “cakelets” (baked with real orange essence!) could be plucked from the tree and handed out to guests.

Fantastic work.
