Visiting magic clubs around the country, one trend seemed undeniable. Things are looking gray. Sure, you’ll see some younger kids who are just getting into magic but the average age of the membership was far closer to AARP than minimum age for a driver’s license. Nearly totally missing (unless making a trip out for a visiting lecture) was the key magic demo of 9-15.

The Minnesota Daily has a great article about the local Minneapolis IBM Ring and how much it does for it’s members but it got me thinking: how many of you reading right now are in a magic club.

You want to know what, let’s put it to a vote:

It’s no secret that much of what was the lifeblood of clubs in a pre-ubiquitous internet age is now being replicated online. But we’re very curious to see how many folks reading this blog, today, September 20th are in a club.

I am a member of IBM but not the local ring, Camelard College and will probably rejoin the MCA for next year. I’m also almost exactly between driving and retirement ages….

I used to belong to SAM until they did away with insurance coverage. Without many magic specials on TV or on tour kids aren’t getting interested in magic, at least thats my opinion.

But kids ARE interested… just ask Penguin or theory11 or Ellusionist. They’ve made a business of it. At the same time, they aren’t at clubs.

Totally agree with Justin – if anything, MORE kids are interested in it.
