Magician Keith Barry reads a caller_s mind - YouTube.jpg

We always like to give a little extra props to the performers who perform over the radio. And so, as Keith Barry continues his Australian press tour in support of his live show 8 Deadly Sins we bring you his appearance on Dennis Walters’ 3AW program.

For us, this hits the three bases for a solid radio bit. Demonstrates great magic ability by the guest, involves the host in a manner that can be fully comprehended by the listening audience and finally uses the random nature of a caller to heighten the “impossibility” of the effect.

Great job by Keith.

I did some radio magic too. You can listen (and watch) here:

Today on 3AW the host was chatting with listeners about magic and one of them offered his theory on how Keith did the trick. Denis (the host) said he thought the same thing. Sadly, the method they came up with was correct. Definitely would have been more deceptive without the video camera. Just shows how careful you have to be when selecting tricks that will represent you to the ticket buying public

It wasn’t a magician. If you ask a spectator to REALLY try to come up with a theory as to how a trick was done, more often than not, they’ll be right… or at least very close.

When I chatted with Denis on air he asked me if his theory was right and I said “I have no idea, magicians have dozens of different methods for each effect.” Then I changed the topic to the Melbourne Magic Festival and how many different tricks listeners could see there.  :)

IMO, Geller was the biggest example of stupidity I’ve ever seen. I remember him being on Tom Snyder, who was amazed at his spoon bending nonsense. Celebrities will do anything for ratings. Montel Williams had Sylvia Browne on every week with her scam, I think it was Sci-fi with John Edwards, Larry King had them all on, Browne, Edwards, VanPrague, faith Healers, etc.

People like Randi expose these people, yet they still make millions with their ridiculous con games. There is no hope for the human race.
