A bit of an Oscar mystery involving David Copperfield is unfolding.
The 1943 Best Director Oscar statue is up for auction. Won by Michael Curtiz for Casablanca the statue is expected to haul in up to $3 million when all is said and done.
The question is, will that money go to Copperfield?
He was the last person to buy it at auction, in 2003, according to records. But who knows what’s happened privately since then. If it is true, it represents quite a haul for DC. Even for a man with a private island, three million bucks is still better than a sharp stick in the eye.
