Penn & Teller Tell A Lie Will Debut In October

Set your DVRs for sometime in… October. That is when Penn & Teller Tell A Lie will hit your TV screens. This according to a Discovery press release:

PENN & TELLER TELL A LIE: Show-stopping iconoclasts Penn & Teller bring their unique vision of the world to Discovery Channel with the new series PENN & TELLER TELL A LIE, slated to launch this October. Each episode will feature up to seven outrageous, hilarious and mind-blowing stories, told through a series of visual stunts, like: Is it true that a head of hair can lift a 5,000 pound car? Or, can you blow out a forest fire with a jet engine? However, in each episode, one of these stories will be a fabrication – an out and out lie! It will be up to Discovery’s intrepid home audience to discover the untruths aimed at them through an exclusive, real-time interactive companion experience, synched to the show and available at Discovery.com, on the Discovery Channel App for iPad, and on iPhone.

We will give you more exact coordinates when they become available.

Weatherford: Are Magicians On The Vegas Strip Just Too Old?

Posted by Editor on July 29th, 2011

Rouven works hard to give stock illusions a twist at Clarion Entertainment Neon ReviewJournal com

In his mixed-to-positive review for Jan Rouven’s new show at the Clarion in Las Vegas, the dean of mainstream media magic reviews Mike Weatherford makes an interesting observation.

It’s refreshing to have an illusionist young and physically spry enough to play the danger card convincingly, not just jamming younger assistants into boxes. (It may just be mean gossip, but who can resist rumors of more than one Strip magician forced to retire illusions because they can no longer fit inside the props?)

We will not gossip on who the magician at the center of the rumor is since there is a larger issue at play. Is the current (growing, might we add) crop of illusionists on The Strip too old, heavy or otherwise immobile? Does their lack of physical prowess damage the illusion and hamper the enjoyment of the audience?

Seth Grabel Eliminated From America’s Got Talent

Posted by Editor on July 28th, 2011

On America’s Got Talent last night, it came down to Seth Grabel and a 50-year-old man who belly flopped nearly 40 feet into a kiddie pool with 12 inches of water with only one advancing. Unfortunately for magic fans, Professor Splash will move on to dive another day while one of a surprisingly thin class of magicians on this season of the show has been sent home.

Who knows if Grabel will be brought back, but unfortunately as of now he has been eliminated. We wish him the best.
