Imagine you work really hard putting together a luau for the fine residents of Havasu City when big shot Criss Angel announces he’s going to escape from a river down the block.

Good luck trying to keep folks at their tables with roast pork and leis…

Vendors and organizers of Main Street’s first Luau on Saturday said turnout was less than expected because of the huge crowd of spectators waiting for a famed magician’s performance on the London Bridge that day.

“Early turnout was good, (but) about the time Criss Angel was supposed to start, it really died off,” said David Bohl, owner of Valley of the Bear Jewelry and vendor Saturday.

Criss Angel officially announced Wednesday that he would perform an underwater escape stunt Saturday underneath the London Bridge. Officials estimated the spectator crowd to be 5,000 for Angel’s event. The magician taped the stunt for an episode of his show “Mindfreak,” slated to air in the middle of July.

To answer Angel’s signature question Havasu City’s luau was not ready.

What a jerk, shoot the bum. They say 5,000, some poster said 10,000. You can see Criss do an escape any day, what's the big deal?
