How does a young woman deal with the mostly male fraternity of magic? Krystyn Lambert tells Wayne Kawamoto about the challenges and unique issues facing ladies in this industry.
For example, mentorship:
Currently there are few women in magic to whom we can look up to. It is easy for males to find role models, but we can only share those to a certain extent. I can admire Mac King for his character, skill, and knowledge, but he’s not exactly what one could consider a feminine performer, as I need to be. One of my early mentors suggested that I do my ring routine in black slacks and a black blouse, well, maybe it could have a bit of sparkle, he said.
Lambert appears to be a throughly modern woman with interests and goals beyond thumb tips and forces, what with the vlogging and the Twittering. Our sense is that it takes a mind that is not 110% dominated with magic to truly analyze the faults and failings of our industry. We hope to hear and see more of Lambert as time goes on.
