Jonathan Pendragon plead no contest yesterday as part of a plea deal with authorities, according to the Santa Maria Times. Pendragon will be sentenced to a year in jail on April 13th and will serve his time at the San Luis Obispo County Jail, he will also serve up to five years of probation and is charged with two strikes on his record.

His lawyer was surprised Pendragon decided to change his mind and plead instead of fighting the charges.

Yarbrough’s attorney, Ilan Funke-Bilu, said he didn’t know exactly why his client chose to change his plea and not proceed with a trial, but he assumed it had something to do with Yarbrough’s feelings for his wife.

… She was present in court Tuesday, when her husband of 33 years apologized to her for any harm he may have caused her.

Funke-Bilu said he has never had a client apologize to the victim at the time of a plea, which he believes shows Yarbrough is remorseful.

“It was something that he wanted to say,” Funke-Bilu said, adding the request by his client caught him off-guard. “It wasn’t something that I told him to say.”

We hope this is the last we post about this case and we wish the best for all parties involved.

Well if you read a little into it, Charlotte said he was suicidal the past couple of years, that usually indicates a problem. I am sure that weighed in on the sentence. Hopefully Jonathan can get some help and live the rest of his life peacefully after he gets out and hopefully Charlotte will be happy with her boyfriend and new career.

It is sad that this happened after such a long period of time together, but who is to say this hasn't been brewing for a long time?
  • Wow that's amazing that he only got 1 year. California's strict gun laws I'm surprised that he didn't get more. Usually they give a year just for having a gun, shooting a gun is a different story. And it is a incredibly sad story to hear about in the first place. Its not cool what happened. But it is some what good to hear that he felt sorry for the issue and meant it.

  • What state did this happen in?

What is sad is our court system, he fired a weapon out of anger, it takes a lot of work to become a responsible firearm owner in our country and this shows he is not a responsible firearm owner. When things like this happen it gives politicians ammo(pun intended) to go after our gun rights in our country.

When I say responsible firearm owners I don't mean people that just buy a gun and keep in there night stand or car for personal protection, in fact those people are not responsible in my opinion. Responsible firearm owners are the ones that get licenses through tough background checks, train regularly and work hard to understand that purpose and reason of being an armed American.

Personally he I believe he should have gotten a lot more time for what he did, this has nothing to do with his magic career as we all know that they are fantastic artists, however his behavior is truly an embarrassment to every responsible firearm owner in our country.

It's sad that they turned out like this after 33 years. I thought they were one of the best acts, he created some great illusions. Maybe he can make a NUDE escape like somebody else we know?
