Paul Daniel’s Lauds The Advantages Of Investing In Magic Posters

In an interview about personal finances UK legend Paul Daniels issues a BUY BUY BUY on magic posters and a SELL SELL SELL on dodgy startups.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BEST BUY?

I have always made good money from magic posters. I used to have nearly 4,000 posters used to promote magicians of the past, but I only have 1,000 now. Quite a few years ago I bought a poster used for Chung Ling Soo, a magician who died on stage in 1918. I only paid £50 and I sold it recently for just under £5,000. His posters were always very artistic.

AND YOUR WORST BUY?

I invested in some shares in a couple of companies in the Nineties and it didn’t work out – I lost about £40,000. I’m from Yorkshire and up there we think of that as a lot of money.

Happy Birthday Derren Brown

Posted by Editor on February 27th, 2010

We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to Derren Brown. He had quite a year, what with The Events and a very successful touring show Enigma now coming back for a second run. Cheers DvB, may you have many happy birthdays past this one.

Now what to get for a present? Maybe 17 Again on DVD, something tells us he’d dig it.

Criss Angel Orders Bike Created From Human Bones

We can’t make this up. Criss Angel has commissioned and will receive a new motorcycle constructed from human bones once used for medical testing, according to Robin Leach.

A new $100,000 motorcycle made from human skeleton will be delivered to Mindfreak magician Criss Angel this weekend at his Cirque du Soleil show Believe at the Luxor. The folks at Big Bear Choppers made the custom super bike from bones dipped in stainless steel for the frame. A Georgia foundry cast the purchased bones that had been discarded after medical purposes.

Kevin and Mona Alsop from Big Bear Lake in California manufactured the machine and were featured on last season’s Mindfreak. It’s the seventh bike they’ve built for Criss, who plans to add it to illusions being created for Believe starting in mid-April and then keep it at his home. The other six are on display at the Luxor.

The bike will reportedly be used in one of the new Believe illusions.

Dirk Arthur Is Officially Out At Tropicana

Posted by Editor on February 27th, 2010

As we reported last week Dirk Arthur is done at the Tropicana. This confirmed by Robin Leach…

He told us this afternoon: “I couldn’t have imagined six years later we would be leaving the Tropicana. It has been a tremendous run and a very lucrative engagement for both the show and the property. I am grateful for the Tropicana’s partnership over the years and during that time have added 10 illusions to the magic show and seven exotic large cats.

“I look forward to the next stage my cats and I will perform on and promise to keep everyone posted on the development of Saber, my 3-month-old white tiger cub who has recently been introduced to the Las Vegas community, as well as where they can see us next.”

We would like to wish Dirk the best of luck in whatever comes next for the illusionist.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Got Talent

Posted by Fábio De'Rose on February 26th, 2010

Yesterday, on the Brazilian take on the “X’s Got Talent” franchise, which is already on it’s second season and awarding $ 200.000,00 cash, the young and talented Gustavo Vierini from Rio de Janeiro, was the second magician in the show’s history to make it through the first round (Out of the 30+ that already tried) and also the first one to succeed on this season.

During the first season of the show the magician Renner, from the city of Belo Horizonte not only made it to the finals, but scored second place having a mere 2% difference against the first place.

Gustavo promises that his take on the Semi-Finals will be even more intriguing and spectacular. Having witnessed him live a few times, I can tell that both Magicians and Laymen will not be disappointed.
