We’ve sorted through your nominations and have compiled the list of ten tricks that will vie for the right to be called the iTricks 2009 Trick of the Year. Among them, we have one former champion returning for a second time, many familiar names and a few new ones.

Here is how it’s going down this year. There will be an open and running vote for the ten nominees, we will eliminate the bottom three vote getters next Wednesday the 16th. One week later, we will eliminate another two the night before Christmas. Bah humbug.

The day after Christmas we’ll announce the final four and it all comes to a head Wednesday, December 30th when we will the voting will be conducted LIVE on a very special iTricks End of the Year Spectacular.

Along the way, we hope to get messages from all the nominees campaigning for your vote.

So, let the games begin, spread the word that if you want any of the finalists to take home the prize you need to email JustinRobertYoung@Gmail with the subject line Trick Of The Year. Vote early, vote often.

Nominees are AFTER THE JUMP.

Who are the big boys Daniel? Well..no surprise my choice

Dis me all u want. Still lookin here on Itricks for that next big thing. What you got? Give it to me!!
  • Daniel Weissglass
Is it just me, or has no one noticed that pressure is a very bad trick...must be my imagination. and seriously, the harbor change? its a mediocre color change, pretty yes, but not ready to run against the big boys
  • friendinflorida
For me, I'm torn between Pressure and Changing Sponge Balls. However wrong it might be, the music that goes w/ the trick has a big impression on me. As much as how the trick is done.

I can't get Vigil to load. Must be super secret....

I agree with the nomination process, for best new trick of the year I go with Pressure. Different out of the box thinking that I love!!!!

Biggest trick of 2009 will be if Tiger can keep the Nike endorsement w/ the slogan "Just Do It".. lol.

I know o/t..sorry..I couldn't resist :) I won't nominate my obvious..but am really looking forward to seein what comes out. Will cast my vote as merely a magic fan. I've seen some really cool stuff on here this year.
  • All good points. We've always intended this to be apples vs. oranges.
So we don't descriminate against anything people nominate.

As for why Vigils effect is there, simply put... it was nominated by
    enough people.

Btw the results so far are VERY shocking. We could see a big contender
    eliminated this Wed.

I was under the impression that Paul Vigil's HCE was very very exclusive, and was a $1000 item. Has that changed? If not, how could it possibly make the list? Who could have voted for it?

And, of the "tricks" of the year one is a multi-dvd set and another is a color change.

I'm confused about how certain things made the list. If a multi dvd-set can, why not a book? Maybe this should just be "cool thing" of the year...

    Oh well. Just ranting.

Confessions of a Needle Swallower was one of my favorite releases of the year, but True Astonishments was far and away the best magic release of 2009.
  • I love Bizzaro's color changing spongeballs!
  • friendinflorida
    "young fan boys"....Nope...not here. :)
  • Georgy12
I'm surprised a Marlo creation became a nominee for trick of the year.
  • magycl
    I like Pixel and Pressure
  • berrymuts
I really like the Pixel effect. The Oil and Water is a close second.

If you want to make sure that a bogus trick doesn't win, you better make sure you vote for something real. I know what I am voting for. I might have a little loyalty to D&D, but that won't stop me from voting for the CLEAR winner here.

This place might be overrun with young fanboys, but that doesn't mean that serious people have no influence in keeping a color change from becoming "Trick of the Year."

I've always loved Bizzaro's Color changing spongeball. Really darn cool, I just wish I did spongeball magic now....
  • Continuing what A. Webb said, everyone had their shot to nominate whatever trick they wanted, it was posted on the site for a long time, so the people that responded, however many of them there were, got their voices heard. If you are unhappy with the list, next year, make a change. Throw your two cents in and make your voice heard.
  • Who the hell is "Veron"?
  • naquada
from what i know (and I wasnt involved in collecting the votes) its been based on people emailing in their nominees...

so if you didn't email in your choice, or your choice didn't show up in the top 'x' of emails collected, then it doesn't appear above...

to assume its a bogus set of nominees a bit unfair!!
  • Aslan
The Harbor Change is really considered a Trick of the Year? It's not a bad looking change but...

And I'm not a mentalist, but I think the winner here is quite clear already. I mean we have a $300, 9 dvd set going against a couple a card tricks and a few other things. Meh.
  • jacklefever
seems like a bunch of bogus nominations to me. Hankins Harbor Change? LOL Yeah THAT should be there. LOL. Putting Hankins on the same ballot as Paul Harris TA? what a joke. Just goes to show Itricks is for the kiddie ellusionists and theory 11 crowd. Veron is rolling in his grave.
  • eric
Im surprised simple little (minor releases) downloads made it and not things like PowerBall 60 and Trantula?!!
