Already one of our most anticipated films of the year, Simon Drake just ratcheted our excitement for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus up another couple notches.
This from his House of Magic website.
In autumn 2007 Simon got a strange phone call. It was Terry Gilliam the film director asking about the possibilities of whether a metal tube, hidden down a person’s oesophagus could prevent death whilst being hung by the neck. It turned out this was for his forthcoming movie The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. In a subsequent 90 min meeting, possibilities were discussed for sleight-of-hand with said tubes along with other ideas for magic effects in the movie. Within a twinkling of an eye, Simon was hired to make these strange tubes and coach the stars of the movie, particularly Christopher Plummer and Andrew Garfield. The film is released 16th October 2009 and Simon saw it last weekend at a preview and was delighted to see the many effects looking great in the film. He says, “Please go and see this movie! It’s utterly gobsmacking!”
Simon’s unique magic matched against the unhinged lunacy of Terry Gilliam in the final film of Heath Ledger? We’re in.
