I’d like to introduce another talented Japanese magician in this week’s post. This time it’s “Monsieur Pierre”, a regular performer in Osaka’s “Vernon’s Bar“, which was featured in the “Bar Hopping in Japan” issue of Genii Magazine in October 2007 .
Combining excellent sleight-of-hand and misdirection skills with an interesting, unique character (sometimes lacking among close-up magicians from Japan—or anywhere for that matter), M.Pierre has also been featured many times on Japanese TV.
He plays the part of a Frenchman, speaking Japanese with a pseudo-French accent, and uses the endearing magic words “Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton!” When faced with mild heckling, he responds with “I don’t understand Japanese.”
You might notice Akira Fujii and Magee Shinji in the audience.
The above clip begins with a visual non-card effect, grabbing the spectators’ attention, and then continues with a set of mostly card magic, combining original ideas with elements and/or effects by Vernon, Sankey, Sanders etc.
Très Bien!
