Las Vegas Weekly reports on Magician Steve Wyricks ‘Death Drop’ Stunt from last night. The plan was that ropes would be tied around a case with the shackled magician trapped inside. It was then to be hoisted 80 feet in the air by a crane, and as the ropes burnt through, the case would plummet and crash into 500 burning spikes, as the case was falling Wyrick was to leap clear onto another rope and escape to safety.
What actually took place was that a rapidly spreading fire nearly ended the stunt in chaos. The illusionist was locked into the case by Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. The burning ropes around the case quickly engulfed it, crew ran in to extinguish the flames, as people thought the worst had happened.
As the case burnt Wyrick had vanished, appearing Seconds later flying in on a helicopter. The stunt had been engineered to promote the grand opening of Chester’s new Club Tattoo store.
