Webwire reports that ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will be bringing back real danger in a live extreme escape stunt on Sunday 21 June.

In the Stunt she will be attempting a legitimately dangerous escape dubbed “Inversion”. This stunt is a one-off variation of her signature Straight Jacket Striptease act which Ning candidly describes as “Harry Houdini meets the Pussycat Dolls”.

In addition to being strapped up in the restraint jacket, the 26-year-old will also be blindfolded and suspended upside down by her ankles 3 stories high in the air.

In a controversial decision Ning has decided that the stunt will be unique in the fact that she will not be using any safety devices of any kind. Any mistake could lead to a fatal fall.

The choice of not using a safety line in the escape has drawn much concern and criticism from friends, family, clients, peers and supporters from across the world. Typically, escapes of this nature will utilize some form of fail-safes or safety devices that are either used openly or covertly.

‘Magic Babe’ Ning’s “Inversion: the blindfolded upside down straight jacket escape”, takes place on Sun, 21 June 09, 6pm at Central Gallery, signapore (retail mall located at Clarke Quay MRT).

I respect her decision to do without the safety devices. It is getting publicity and she seems very determined to be the best at what she does. I do think it is extremely dangerous. It gives her death a higher percentage.

Magicians have always looked for new ways to single themselves out and "one up" the competition. Adding a dramatic element of danger is nothing new to magicians but the removal of legitimate safety devices is immoral and hurts the entire craft. It is a challenge to other magicians to follow suit in order to compete. It is foolishness and there are many examples in history of magic to support why this is a terrible idea. Remember that magicians, if they are any good at all, will be role models to young people. Ignoring safety is the worst message possible... and for a little publicity? Disgusting!
