The author behind the Swedish hit horror movie “Let The Right One In” was actually a magician before he turned into a horror writer.
In the 1980’s John Ajvide Lindqvist performed for laypeople and competed in a lot of competitions in card magic. He was an avid fan of Paul Harris an actually printed Harris’ signature cartoon logo on a t-shirt he was often spotted wearing at magic conventions.
He left magic for a stand-up comedy and then turned out to be a comedy writer for Swedish top comedians before finally finding his call in writing horror books.
The above clip is from his presentation of his latest book at the International Book Fair in Gothenburg in October, 2008. He performs some magic as his alter ego; a German (!) magician.
His fans might enjoy this YouTube clip where he from his writers cabin speaks (in Swedish) about his latest book “Människohamn” (translates freely to “The Human Harbour”. Not published in English yet) and performs some quick magic. In this book one of the characters is a touring magician in Sweden.
