Nathan Santucci handles the dirty work for Penn and Teller. Building props, rigging gimmicks and sometimes comically making sure the blood is ready to pop at the right moment. The Las Vegas Sun got an interview with the “Director of Covert Operations” and revealed just how hairy his job can get.

For example, while in Egypt Nathan had to rig a squib for an effect where P&T planned to cut a snake in half. He had to find the materials and mix the blood in his hotel room when…

Enter the maid. Exit the maid, screaming.

Enter security.

It ended well, after 15 minutes of arguing in pidgin English. And the prop worked OK on camera.

It’s a really cool interview and an interesting look at just much work goes into the Bad Boys of Magic’s trademark macabre act.

Tip of the hat to Troy from Las Vegas for the tip.

I met Nathan a very long time ago. He's very crafty guy. Sure….the blood in the hotel room was for a Penn & Teller trick. Uh huh….
