Among the criticisms of Criss Angel you will not find “shrinking violet.”

And so was the lesson learned by Perez Hilton this Friday when according to reports, Angel singled the “Queen of all Media” out during Belive’s final bow and identified him as “the world’s biggest douchebag a*****e.” Hilton allegedly sneered in response, “Thanks for the free tickets.”

According to Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the war of words began when friends of Angel became aware that Hilton was trashing the show on his Twitter account. Hilton not only tweeted that the show was bad, he also insinuated that it was racially offensive.

However, it could very well just be old bad blood since Perez has consistently slammed the Mindfreak star (along with everyone else in show business) on his wildly popular site.

I though “the world’s biggest douchebag a*****e” was the alleged psychic, John Edward.

  • Brookie

I don't really thing that Perez deserves any recognision of fame. I mean think about it he has a gossip site…….so he's a highschool girl. Criss is not the most recognisable person in the world but he has more credibality than someone who got whatever it is that Perez has by starting up a website and hating every single person in the entertainment buisness. I mean yeah Criss has bad mouthed people but look at what Perez has done. Perez hilton has false fame.

  • http://www.myspace.com/bbamagic CrowGarrett

For anyone that was there that night we did not see the “shout out” to Hilton as being a slam towards him. but more as a joking matter between the two. Hilton hid slouching in his chair as the spotlight hit him. Angels tone while calling Hilton a “Douche Bag & Asshole” was more along the lines as calling your friends names in a joking matter. Got to love the media for trying to start shit between two different people…

But in my opinion does the show suck. After seeing it that Friday night i can honestly say yes it does. But as appose from the opinions of the critics putting all the blame on Angel. (In no defense towards him) I can say that most of the blame should be put on the shoulders of Crique. The energy from Angel was great. The beginning portion was classic Angel. But once they started going into the “Believe” portion of the show it became A clash that didn't complement its self between Angel and Crique. I think that Crique took way to much control then they were willing to give. So in the end would I blame Angel for the unpleasant show (and don't get me wrong. there were moments in the show that were great.) I would pass the blame towards Cirque & Believes director…

Too bad Angel got him self into a situation that turned out bad…

Probably not the best idea to Twitter drunk, especialy with the dude right in front of you. Perez is just mad because Criss won't switch teams.. Ha!

Perez is an idiot! I think hes jealous of the fame he'll never have.

  • Lee

This is so much much baloney! Criss simply called Perez something that Perez calls others on a daily basis in his column! Was it rude to “twitter” while the show was going on? Of course it was! How the heck was he paying attention to the show if he was “twittering”? I've never liked Perez anyway so I couldn't care less what he says about Criss or anyone else. The man is in the business of insulting anyone he wants. Guess this time he picked the wrong person and got a dose of his own medicine. BTW What the heck in BeLIEve did Perez think was racially offensive?????? I've seen the show 7 times and I can't think of a single word, scene or anything that has anything to do with race!!

    Hello Crow,

I can see how it might be true and the media could be trying to start something but would you agree that using a term like ” Asshole” in a family rated show might not be looked upon as professional behavior?

  • http://www.myspace.com/bbamagic CrowGarrett

oh and no one was allowed to use their phones while they were in the show room. not even to make a call or even text. so if Hilton did Twitter while he was in the show room. that's a damn good magic trick. security was extremely strict.

  • Friend in Florida

Thanks for your review Crow. Very interesting about what you saw in person and what is being reported in the media.

I can't believe Cirque issued an apology for this. Maybe it is like radio rules. You can say “ass” and you can say “hole, you just can't say “asshole”.

I say you go Criss. Never change…..language bombs and all. Change the rating of the show to PG instead of G. Parental guidance..you know. But I truly hope Criss doesn't let Cirque suck the life out of him and change what has made him famous and loved by all ages.

p.s. Norm's gonna definitely fuel the fire on this one.

  • Timothy Drake

    Hi FIF,

But its NOT a PG show. If it was the its open season. I heard much worse at Amazing Johnathans show. REALLY wild but lots of fun. The however don't allow any one under 18 in. The point with Cirques apology is that they run a “G” show and Criss is an employee.

Lets say that you own an upscale business ( maybe a expensive restaurant) and charge a good price for your food. ( as the tickets for Believe are expensive) Now imagine that one of your employees sees the guy who his ex-girlfriend cheated with and hollers across the restaurant… ” Hey you “Joe”… you Douchbag, Asshole!”

Would you say ” Go Criss…..never change.” to that employee or maybe tell him his personal issues with people have NO place in YOUR business in front of your paying guests? At the very least I'd say that you'd apologize to your patrons in your establishment and thats what Cirque did here.

Now… with that said…. Cirque is JUST as much at fault here as Criss is. They knew who they were signing in the beginning. Criss dropped the F bomb at Cirques announcement of the show creation. During rehearsals they kept cutting his lines in the show because he had trouble getting through them without saying “F” multiple times. Thats Criss… they signed him. If he's a rebel …. well…..”THEY signed him.” What did they think they'd get?????? LOL

the word around vegas is that the town is tired of the “family fun” approach and they are ready to go back to its “Sin City” Image. which the transiston can bee seen threw out the town from TI's new show Moving from the Pirate Stunt show (personaly i would have much rather have seen.) to its new Sirens of TI show which is a take on the Pussycat Dolls meets Pirates of the Caribbean with the image of sex and Music to match.

A list of words Angel said threw out the late Friday night show…

    F**k
    S**t
    A****le
    B**ch

all of these words were said long before the “incident” between Angel and Hilton. in my eyes from what i even saw this was a joking matter between the two cuss Angel even referred to him as his buddy. and they both laughed threw out the “incident”.

but going back to your point of view Tim the whole town has moved back to the city of sin. From again the TI show to the burlesque show at the Flamingo plus Peepshow and so forth. Even Peen & Teller brought a 7 year old girl up on stage to do a cut an restored rope act questioning the belief in God comparing God to Teller. After the little girl left they used words along the same lines Angel used that Friday night.

and for any parents to get upset or offended with Angels show for the use of its language they should have noticed in the MindFreak series that Angel does allot of cussing threw out due to the many uses of a bleep threw out the show. So they should have seen it coming. plus not once did i see anything stating that this was a family show…

    P.S.
Hilton Stated that the Black Woman threw out the show portraying the dark evil witch was a racial comment against Black people. it wasn't portrayed that way. it was a vision of light vs dark good vs bad. the woman that played the light side was almost albino in a way with pale white hair and the skin tone to match. They both were sexy beyond words i must add…

  • Friend in Florida

    Hi Tim,

I understand what you are saying, but Criss just isn't “some” employee. The title is Criss Angel's Believe, it is HIS story, it features HIS television show. Basically Cirque gave him a place to perform in and gave him some dancers. Who do you think are filling most of the seats everynight? My bet is it is the loyals. Cirque has a million other live shows out there….but there is only one Mindfreak.

I also have to wonder just how many patrons required an apology and how many laughed their butts off because we all know what Perez is. I still say kudos to Criss.

  • Timothy Drake

    Hi FIF,

He IS an employee however. Maybe the star of the show but he is employed by Cirque. If this isn't another PR stunt then I'd call it another nail in the shows coffin. Word is that the show is only being kept open because Luxor is giving away seats as part of a room rental promotion. If it succeeds the show stays but if it doesn't the show goes. I still say it won't make the 1st year anniversary. It continues to sink in ratings on tripadvisor.com. It is now 483 out of 557 things to do in Vegas and is an embarrassment for Cirque. This latest embarrassment they don't need. BUT…..THEY signed him. LOL

Crow… I hear ya but as I said before…. this is a “G” show. If they had language warnings posted or limited the show to 18 and up then thats a different story but they don't as far as I know. BTW… I think the black actress portraying the evil character is just that… an actress playing a character. Anyone saying different is looking to stir the pot. I agree thats what Perez does. I also don't think Perez took it all in fun from the reaction posted on his website.

Regards the parents who should have known better from MindFreak….. we have been constantly reminded that this is NOT Mindfreak but rather a haunting journey…yadda yadda yadda.

Regards it being a family show…….. They sell tickets to children so that makes it a “G” ( General) show. Amazing Johnathan does not sell tickets to children or minors and thus is not a “G” show but rather an “R” show. And a damned funny one at that.

    Hello FIF,

I forgot to add something earlier so I thought I'd toss it in here. I have NO problem with Criss insulting Perez… NO problem at all. My issue is the way he did it in Cirques show. Let me explain a bit better. I have no problem booing someone who is showing bad taste. If I attended a show or listened to a speaker who was out of line I would easily boo them and have done so. ( I'm not a shy person..lol)

However… there was a time I was hired to perform at an event. It was days after Roy Horn had been attacked by the tiger and that was big in the news. One of the door prizes at the event I performed at was a very large stuffed animal ( white tiger) and as the person drawing tickets held it up to display it he grabbed it and held it to his throat like it attacked him, mocking the Horn accident. He thought this was funny. It wasn't. A man was clinging to life in Vegas at this point. I almost booed him right then and there but I remembered I wasn't one of the crowd but I was hired by the event organizers to be an entertainer… and not a protester. Causing a scene was not something they would have appreciated. I chose instead to let him have it after the event in private. I think that was the more professional thing to do.

OK….. off my soapbox for now. Time to sit back and see how this plays or blows over.

there is no way to put a rating on a show in Vegas. I chatted with a couple of girls before the show cuss we were the only ones waiting in line at the time. but one of them was 17. and the other was 18. both were given the tickets as a gift. they both said reluctantly that they accepted the gift. and there was absolutely no one carding any ticket holder at Amazing Jonathan, Penn & Teller or Believe.

and isn't that what Perez is known for? didn't he bash Kathy Griffin then appeared on her show “My life on the B List” having coffee with her? Perez did not seam upset leaving the show. He had a smile on his face and was joking with his friends. He left with everyone else. If i was publicly offended as me makes him self out to be wouldn't he have gotten up and left right then? instead of siting threw the last 20 min for the worst ending I have ever seen to a magic show.

No i am done posting or even reading this website. Due to the censor that was given to me for a comment i made towards another reader, telling me that it is OK to go on a website such as this and attack a Celebrity by calling a Celeb a word that starts with a “W”. But when I refer to such a reader to being a word that starts with a “B” and was a title to a Hit Song in the late 90's. (I'm a B****, I'm a Mother, I'm a Child, I'm a Lover) well that just tells me that this website does not support the Freedom of speech act. or they do only when a bash is made towards someone that can not defend them self's.

The problem I see with the comments toward Hilton, is the kids sitting in the audience. I've seen the show twice so far & he still continues to cuss. And as for the show itself, it could be better if Criss had 100% control. What's really hurting the show, is the fact that people are expecting the show “MindFreak” when they walk into the theater.

I personally like the show & get what Criss is trying to do. It's just sad to see fellow magicians like myself, continue to bash him. And i'm not crying or defending him all the way, in any shape or form whatsoever. Trust me, I know what goes on behind closed doors (My mentor was a consultant for Criss). Criss has made bad choices & treated people badly, who hasn't? All i'm saying is that everybody deserves a second chance. Even the most hated magician in history, Mr.Angel.

  • Timothy Drake

    Well Crow,

Sorry to see you leave. In the odd chance you are reading this I'll let you know that they do indeed NOT allow anyone under 18 into Johnathans show. Here you can read it for yourself on the theaters website. https://harmon-web.vegas.com/harmon/AmazingJona…

They do allow children into Believe. BTW… it's really easy to rate a Vegas show. They have done it for years. Its simply a matter of letting in kids or not letting in kids. Some do and some don't. If they do then its fit for all ages. Believe does.

Regards Freedom of Speech…. I'm all for that but this is a privately owned website and the owners of the website can choose what language they prefer to have posted on it. Just because you can say it doesn't mean they have to post it. That is their right and freedom as well.

For the record… I agree with Criss. Perez deserved the criticism. In fact it looked good on him but Criss should have chosen a better venue than his place of business to do it. Or for the matter someone elses ( Cirques) place of business. If you feel so strongly and want to call Perez or anyone else names feel free to post it on your own website like Perez does. Go ahead and use all the vile language you want since after all it is your website. BUT… since that website is used as a business promotion tool then I'd suggest being careful what you say on it as it may offend possible clients. You may loose bookings but you'd have your freedom of speech and nobody could take that away from you. You have the freedom to make that choice just like itricks has and just like Cirque has.

    Best,

    Tim

Lee said, “How the heck was (Perez) paying attention to the show if he was “twittering”?”
I would ask how Angel was paying attention to the show if he was being told backstage that someone was twittering about him? I mean think about that. Someone in Angel's crew was reading Hilton’s twitter feed, DURING the show and then reporting that information to Angel DURING the show when Angel probably should have been thinking about the show.

CrowGarrett said, “oh and no one was allowed to use their phones while they were in the show room. not even to make a call or even text. so if Hilton did Twitter while he was in the show room. that's a damn good magic trick. security was extremely strict.“
If you are still reading this CrowGarrett I would suspect that at some point in your life you have had an all access laminate. You may have been whisked past security and in a side door. Remember the Michael Jackson visit last week? Not saying this happened because how would I know but I suspect Hilton did not go through security and was expected to honor the same rules as the audience which he obviously did not.

Finally CrowGarrett has also said, ”The beginning portion was classic Angel. But once they started going into the “Believe” portion of the show it became A clash that didn't complement its self between Angel and Crique.” I think we have all agreed that Believe is NOT Mindfreak Live and this is one of the huge problems with the show. People are attending with the expectations of seeing a motorcycle vanish in midair or someone walk up a wall or whatever. Not to say that can’t be done…by a true stage magician.
    Just saying.

  • Friend in Florida

Crow, I didn't read the incident your talking about…but I hope you don't leave. Sometimes things get said. As a matter of fact, I think I called you a pig at one time..lolol. And I did recant that. :)

cmon…Crow..we DO have fun here. And, really, where else can the loyals truly express their feelings. Not on the CA site…that's for sure. Itricks has become a very special animal in the magic blogging community. So many different worlds coming together at once…..there's bound to be a spark once in a while. For the record, about the Perez thing, w/ you actually being there and giving your account…makes me really think about the PR wheel. What is all this about really.

HAHA you just have to love this man. I think Criss would do anything for attention. I think he used Holly Madison for media attention big time. Nobody not even Criss is stupid enough to date somebody like her seriously.

I can't wait to see what Criss pulls next. I love him.

  • Mario

CrowGarret – You FORCE me to set you straight again, man… In Perez' OWN WORDS, he explains how it went down (see the video on Jeremywomack.com). This wasn't the media making stuff up… Perez TELLS the camera how the show sucked. He even gave the finger to the mention of criss' name (reported by a vegas journalist) at another event. If you're going to comment, try to get it right! Geez… LOL

criss is already “yesterday”. I'm betting that he's trying to get fired so he can collect $$$. I'm sure he would have QUIT by now if he could. Who really wants to walk on on stage when the audience isn't going to appreciate what you do because you do it poorly? I mean, let's call this what it really is. It's a waste of money. It's been called the worst show in vegas in the past 10 years. They STILL haven't fixed a damn thing, and continue to rob people. That show gives “sin city” a whole new meaning. The show is a SIN!

  • NOW WHAT

now what will happen to criss angel?

  • http://www.myspace.com/bbamagic CrowGarrett

After a nice e-mail from Justin Robert Young I have decided to retract my statement on saying that I am done with this website. Thank you to those of you that wished for me not to go. now we can get back to debating this subject and sad to say this will be a very long post that I will try to keep short…

Threw out the times that I have ever seen Amazing Jonathan in Vegas I can honestly say that I have seen a kid once at this show he was with his dad. He wasn't allowed to sit in the front section of the floor with the tables or even be around the bar but he did sit threw the whole show. In fact the first time I ever saw AJ live was in 1998 I was about 13 or so. Granted the show was not in Vegas. But I did go see it with my mom at the time.

Perez Hilton did not have a all access laminate. He was with about 5 or 4 of his friends. We waited in line to get in just like the rest of us, and he walked out threw the huge crowed with the rest of us. I know he had a smile on his face when he left cuss he almost ran into me while he was joking with his friends when he left. as for the phones. You are told by every employ of the Luxor to leave all cell phones and electronic devices off while in the show room. Threw out the show they had 4 security guards in the show room just for that reason. I know cuss a guy behind my seat was trying to send a text before the show started to his kids. and was told Loudly by one of those guards to turn the phone off and put it away or he would be escorted out of the theater.

When I made the comment that the beginning portion of the show was classic Angel. I wasn't making reference to the MindFreak Series. I'm sure Angel him self has gotten word to him at one point that I highly dislike that show. I was talking about classic Broadway show Criss Angel from when he had a show in the basement of what is not the Hard Rock Cafe in Time Square. One portion of the show that was the most classic Angel thought was the Dove Act that he does. Not the best dove act I have ever seen but I cant say it was bad either.

Also I am not a Loyal of Angels. Hes a nice guy when you get him at the right moment. But like have said before I'm no fan of his. I respect him even as a magician. But I look at him more as a per then anything.

Now to target my favorite comment…

MARIO! from what you read and see on the internet. and from what i saw the night of. there is nothing that you are setting straight…. man…

Sure Perez did say what he said in the video. He also is laughing when asked about the incident and continues to laugh threw out the interview. When you try to laugh between answers and questions that is a sign that you are looking for what to say next. its a sign of a lie. Like I said before he bashed Kathy Griffin on his website in a really harsh way. And now the 2 are known to be really good friends. hanging out with each other on a constant basis…

Most of you look at this as Perez Hilton pissed at Criss Angel. I look at it as a publicity stunt. How would I come to this conclusion other then the facts that I saw for my self? YOUR READING ABOUT IT ON THE INTER NET!!! Your reading about this incident is another form of advertisement for both party's involved. Put 2 and 2 together people! For instance look how much hype Madonna got for trying to adopt a child from another country. The more people talk about you (good or bad) the more your bank roll will grow. its the number one rule for fame in Hollywood…

Criss Angel should move on. He has a bad rep in Vegas with his mouth and his trashy girls. He should move on to another place and start over. Gain respect again and keep his trash girls in the closet.

what i love most is when Perez talks over compensation and then says that his is big and Criss' isn't. Really Perez that's called hipocracy. fake laughter is also a sign of discomfort. another thing it seems to me that Perez is one of those people who can dish it but can't take it.
