Eddy Ray

This weeks new magic review might need an exterminator thanks to Yigal Mesika’s new effect called Tarantula. David Regal brings us his latest book properly titled, “Approaching Magic” and Mindlapse productions reveals their latest release… all of this and more, let’s dig into it!

Tarantula (With DVD) By Yigal Mesika:
Tarantula (With DVD) By Yigal Mesika:

Check this out: You’re in a normal setting – maybe a coffee shop, a classroom, even a party. You borrow a friend’s ring and hold it very fairly – nothing to hide. Suddenly, you give it a gentle horizontal spin and slowly move your hands away – the ring is now floating. Imagine that it continues to spin – without you touching it! The ring hovers up and down above your hand, from one hand to another, and slowly lands on your own finger! Now get this: You instantly repeat it, and end up with the ring floating onto the spectator’s own finger! Sounds impossible? Believe it or not, it’s easy to master! This levitation has it all. It’s fun, mysterious, edgy, and leaves a strong emotional impact.

Barry & Stuart Debut Devious April Fools Day Web Video

Posted by Editor on March 31st, 2009

April Fools Day is tomorrow and those hellspawn Barry and Stuart teamed with BBC3 to create one doozy of a viral video prank. Check out the clip above which details the effect, the method and is even laced with the squeals of an English girl who becomes convinced she has psychic powers.

To do our part, we’re going to do a post about the actual video you need to perform the effect straight up tomorrow. We’re not going to approve any “THIS IS A JOKE!!” comments for 24 hours so those who want to punk their friends via iTricks can have their fun.

James Randi Educational Foundation YouTube Account Suspended

Posted by Editor on March 31st, 2009

Yesterday, YouTube suspended the account of the James Randi Educational Foundation. Communication with the home office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida revealed that they are hard at work on the problem and should have it resolved sometime soon.

Although the JREF has had recent issues (YouTube-centric and otherwise) in the past with old foe Uri Geller, there is to this point no evidence that he’s had any involvement in the suspension.

Hopefully, much more on this before the day is out. Keep an eye on Randi.org for an official announcement.

For those new to the iTricks party, we’d like to take this time to declare in the interest of full disclosure that iTricks Publisher Andrew Mayne is a former employee of the JREF and Editor Justin Robert Young was a former intern of the foundation. Also, we did a podcast with Randi.

This beauty is called the Houdini Chair and will debut next month at Design Week 2009 in Milan by CTRLZAK Art & Design Studio. It was brought to our attention by the scamps at Gizmodo. Pretty self explanatory.

Hat tip to iTricks’ own Derek for the link.

The Panel:
Brian Brushwood
Daniel Garcia

Recorded in front of a live internet audience on BBLiveShow.com we have our favorite East Texas guests. Did Bill Kalush always know that his Houdini book would turn into a movie, as was announced this week? Is Allison “Willow” Hannigan a Scam School fan? Is David Blaine using his Twitter account right?
