Siegfried & Roy’s Final Performance Tonight

Posted by Webb on February 28th, 2009

Tonight is Siegfried and Roy’s ‘Final Performance’ at the Bellagio. For the 1,000 guests attending the Keep Memory Alive gala, the duo penned a special personal note, according to Las Vegas Week:

Our friends: It is what we know, so let us talk about magic. For more than 40 years, we have urged everyone to seek out the magic that surrounds all of us. The kind of magic that took two young Germans from humble backgrounds on a life-long odyssey to stages around the world and finally to Las Vegas, where we became known around the globe for making the impossible possible.

The kind of magic that inspired an entrepreneur and a small group of his friends to create a place where the best doctors come to study and treat those afflicted by brain disease. In Las Vegas? Yes, Las Vegas, they said. Of course, Las Vegas. Larry Ruvo then convinced one of history’s greatest architects, Frank Gehry, to design the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute. It is a true testament to our belief that, in magic, anything is possible.

and if any iTricks readers are in the audience, we’d love to get some photos, or feedback, once more all together.. “SARMOTI!!!!”

Leave Criss Angel Alone!

Dan Sperry. Wow. The runny mascara, the parrot, the rotating library of Angel paraphernalia. Sure the meme is well over a year old, but this is really a stunning work. And we’re not just saying that because this site gets name checked.

Let’s just say, it’s pretty hilarious. And then he drools on himself.

Cyril’s Latest Magic Special Airs

Posted by Webb on February 28th, 2009

Cyril Magic Special 24/02/09Many thanks to Japanjin for bringing to our attention the latest Cyril Special that aired on Fuji TV last Tuesday, February 24th.

Heres the run down as described on Japanjin’s blog:

Cyril vanishes a $200,000 Audi from a car dealership and makes it re-appear in the studio.

Smash and Stab effect with a spectator.

A pottery wheel magically spins, the clay seems to take shape on its own.

A cockatoo at Universal Studios Japan finds a spectator’s selected card.

Some great cigarette manipulations and ending with production of a large number of bills from the hands.

Some impromptu effect with yarn and string.

..and more including our favorite: card selecting goldfish!!

The final effect was a Houdini’s Water Torture Cell type effect with a twist. Read the whole review on Japanjin’s blog

PETA Takes a Dim View of Siegfried & Roy’s Final Show

Posted by Webb on February 28th, 2009

According to The Las Vegas Review Journal, PETA, The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, aren’t too impressed with their show being held at the Bellagio, which is billed as their final performance.

Although Siegfried & Roy don’t perform anymore, they still keep tigers and other animals in captivity in Las Vegas. Which is where The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a longtime critic, has taken a dim view.

After Roy’s mauling, people who worked around the act told PETA the cats were then confined to dark and barren glorified kennels, although PETA never confirmed that independently, says PETA’s Lisa Wathne, a captive exotic animals specialist. I challenge them, if they truly care about tigers, as they say they do, they would stop breeding these animals, and take some of the vast funds, monies they have made off the backs of these tigers, and retire them to a sanctuary, where they can spend the rest of their lives in as natural conditions as possible

Siegfried & Roy have always insisted their animals are well-cared for.
