Next week, Criss Angel is going to attempt to escape two straight jackets while suspended… cajun style.

For the upcoming season of Mindfreak, Angel will hang high above the legendary Bourbon Street for what is by far the largest spectacle we’ve heard of thus far during his recent filming. Of course, Robin Leach had the story…

Thousands of revelers are expected to pack the French district to watch his escape attempt for freedom. One source inside the magic world told me: “This double straitjacket escape has never ever been attempted before. It is beyond crazy!” Criss, who normally shoots here in Vegas, flies over the weekend to the “Big Easy” for a week of filming new on location Mindfreak A&E episodes.

The quote there maybe getting a little too excited, but this should be a can’t miss for any Louisiana Loyal. But what do you guys think? Leave your comments below… cajun style.

Artist Recreates Prestige Scene In Real Life

Magfields

Only tangentially magic related but our buddy Derek Merdinyan passed this link along featuring a field of fluorescent bulbs lit only by the magnetic field generated by overhead electrical lines. Although the method is different, the picture is reminiscent of the scene in The Prestige where Hugh Jackman’s character is introduced to some of Nikola Tesla’s “real magic.”

Tip of the hat to Gizmodo for the find.

Shawn Farquhar Fumes About Blackpool Introduction

Posted by Editor on February 28th, 2008

Shawn Farquhar

Amongst the gala pomp and circumstance surrounding the “biggest magic convention in the world,” Shawn Farquhar was left feeling quite put out by his introduction for the big UK vs. The World performance. Naquada noted in his review of the event, that master of ceremonies Stu Francis botched Farquhar’s name twice after flirting with the performers wife from the stage. In his own blog however, Farquhar reveals that the name fumbling was only the icing on a very frustrating and unprofessional cake.

I had noticed earlier how he was presenting acts so I had already taken time to direct him on how to introduce me and my act. I think it is rather simple to just say “Please welcome 3 time FISM award winner from Canada … Shawn Farquhar”. Go ahead try it … I’ll wait. No really try it! See it wasn’t hard at all was it? Well Mr. “it’s all about me” Francis went out on the stage and started chatting up my Wife on stage and then forgot what to say so he returned to stage left and asked Lori what he was supposed to say. Yes you read that right. Then came the crowning moment for me that told me just how much I was loved … he introduced me as Derrick … then corrected himself and called me David!

Farquhar goes on to apologize for his what he considered a lackluster performance due to the pre-show distractions.
