Ever wonder where J.J. Abrams seemingly never ending well of teeth-clenching mysteries comes from? Rambaldi. The Hatch. The Cloverfield Monster. According the Abrams’ talk at last year’s TED conference they might have all sprung from the same sealed Mystery Package from Tannen’s Magic Shop in New York City. Or maybe they didn’t, we think that’s kind of the point.
This from Boing Boing.net.
It’s a “mystery package” he bought from Lou Tannen’s Magic store in New York. It has a big question mark on it. He’s never opened the box and never will open it because he says the mystery of what’s inside the box is more interesting than anything that might be in the box. “It represents infinite possibility; it represents hope; it represents potential… mystery is the catalyst for imagination… maybe there are times where mystery is more important than knowledge.”
There is also an mp3 of the talk available.
