Keith Barry’s latest special, his first since he got into a life-threatening car wreck, has already stirred controversy since it could leave him hanging. Barry plans on lining up six nooses and allowing the audience to pick the one he’ll hang himself with. One of them will, of course, be a dud but that hasn’t stopped some people from claiming that Barry is mocking the serious issue of suicide.
But Fianna Fáil TD Charlie O’Connor says the trick makes a mockery of the serious problem of suicide.
“This so-called trick is disgraceful and disgusting. It is the most insensitive attention seeking stunt I have witnessed in a long time. For this horrific and tragic act to be shown on national television and considered as entertaining viewing is an outrage.”
This stunt was first announced way back in January and will air on the ITV network in Britain. According to the article, it will be recorded in front of a live studio audience.
