Halloween is huge in this industry, so we’d like to tip our beat-up bowler hat (we’re going as Charlie Chaplin) in the direction of all the iTricks readership digging pre-November macabre.
We’ve also got a little treat for you, our own evil genius Andrew Mayne has a walk-through for a fun little effect for all of the Mac folks that have the new OSX operating system, Leopard. As pictured above it allows you to terrify friends and family by appearing as if you’ve died and climbed out of your body in spirit form like Jake Busey in Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners.
I know what you’re saying, if that’s the treat, where’s the trick? Well, we’re not doing a iTricks.TV Pick of the Day. How do ya like them (possibly razor-infused) apples?
Mischievous mentalist Derren Brown continues to spread his influence across the globe like so many Risk pieces. He takes his Trick Of The Mind series to South Africa tonight for a Halloween debut. In the first episode he conjures up some tasty magic for Michel Roux Jr. and baffles a butcher, a baker and candlestick maker.
In case we have any South African readers, you’ll be able to catch it on BBC Prime. Also, there’s a pretty cool episode of Rome on too. Andrew Mayne does a really killer Kevin McKidd impression.

We’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Joshua Jay on the Magic Week in Review a fewtimes and it just so happens to be his birthday today. So in his honor we give you the above video of his “cornered” magic. It joins, the trailer for his Live In Sao Paulo DVD as our favorite clips uploaded in the last 24 hours.
Get all the fun of FISM without being there! We pointed this out in a Magic Chatter chatter a few weeks ago but it really deserves it’s own post. Ellis and Webster, the team behind the Magic Unlimited blog are now offering reformatted journals from FISMs past in the cleverly titled FISMReports.blogspot.com. Take this entry from the award ceremony at the Stockholm event.
Speaking of lectures… David Jones and Nelson both told us that the Armando Lucero lecture was sensational! In fact we heard that most of the lectures were very good. The only problem is that you can’t see lectures and the competition, you need to make a choice. (And as was pointed out on another forum, there were plenty of lectures for the 500 people who were free when 2000 people were watching the Stage Competition, but comparatively nothing for the 1800 people who couldn’t get in to the 700 seats in the Close Up Competition rooms.
We’ve never been to a FISM, but these seem to give a pretty good impression of what one would be like. Enjoy.
Thanks to The Magician.org.uk blog whose post brought this back to our attention.

Ice From Water By Andrew Gerard:
The performer places a clear glass of water on the table. With sleeves rolled up and both hands shown empty, the performer reaches into the water and pulls out his hand in a closed fist, opens it, and ice appears… Again, the performer shows his hand empty, reaches into the water, closes his hand and produces more ice… a third time he reaches in, this time producing a HANDFUL of ice!
This is an effect that looks like a REAL miracle. There is NO other effect of this kind that can match this one.
