Card Throwing

Sent in by iTricks regular Derek, this game is designed for the Nintendo Wii (and its motion sensitive controller) but has a flash version that is by itself, wholly addicting.

The Week In Entertainment: Death Defying Weight Gain

In an interview with Movies Online Guy Pearce talks about his current projects including Death Defying Acts, which ironically came right after he played Andy Warhol in Factory Gril and required a pretty demanding physical change…

Pearce: It wasn’t that I had to build up because it was more physical, I had to build up because Houdini is built like a Sherman tank. I was 63 kilos when I made Factory Girl, and I was 75 kilos when I did Death Defying Acts. It’s interesting really to play the two characters back-to-back because Andy is so light, white, fey, everything about him is floaty and kind of light and not wanting to be noticed in a way, whereas Houdini was very grounded, very gruff, very deep voice, he’s very masculine, completely opposite ends of the spectrum, as far as physicality and a number of other things, both highly self-promoting, poor immigrants of the 20th century, but aside from that they were pretty different.

Pearce added that production on the film only wrapped last October so far there is no release date set.

Madmen of Comedy

Paul Kozak whose most recent project teams him with The Amazing Johnathan, Mac King and Michael Finney as the Madmen of Comedy and Magic has a new job. This summer he will produce the Pussycat Dolls of Comedy, a smattering of smoldering hot female comediennes. This is from their news release

In what is certain to be one of the country’s hottest shows, casting and rehearsals have begun recently on POC aka The PussyCat Dolls of Comedy. Some of the finest female comedic talent has already signed on for the project, which is being Directed and Produced by its Creator Michael Bloom along with Paul Kozak who is also sharing the writing responsibilities of POC with Ritch Shydner.

Bloom and Kozak are considered among the best at what they do. Kozak was just given the Merlin award as the international comic magician of the year by the International magicians society. Penn and Teller were also honored. P.O.C. members include Jenna Morasca (Survivor), April Macie (Last Comic Standing) Amanda Egge (Second City), Christina Pazitzsky (MTV Road Rules), Lisa Alvarado (Nickelodeon/ Funniest Mom in America) Shayma Tash (Mad TV) , Sandy Brown (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Jenna Lewis (Survivor/ Talk Soup). Insiders say that the producers are still scouring both coasts for other qualified candidates. Smart, sexy, strong and confident is the message these beautiful women want to send.

Here are the MySpaces for the POC, Kozak and The Madmen.

Criss Angel’s CSI Episode A Flashback?

Criss Angel CSI Flashback?

From TV Guide’s Ask Ausiello column comes this tidbit:

Over on New York, a casting call has gone out for an actress who looks like a “younger version of Lindsay.” (Hmmm…. ) That same episode will feature an appearance by Criss Angel of Mindfreak fame.

The Lindsay is Det. Lindsay Monroe played by Anna Belknap. Could this mean Criss is featured in a flashback? Maybe someone in the present day who brings up some deep dark memories for the Crime Scene Investigator?

Something to ponder.

Herbert Becker Plans New David Blaine Exposure Book

Posted by Editor on January 30th, 2007

Herbert Becker's New Blaine Book
Herbert Becker believes magic owes him a debt of gratitude and since the publication of his book All The Secrets of Magic Revealed in 1995, his critics have contended the exact opposite.

His writing career has since seen the publication of several other books dedicated to magic exposure and in 2008 he will add The Magic Secrets of David Blaine to that list, his first book in 11 years. Yet no matter the controversy, the author is absolute in his belief that his contributions to the magic industry have been phenomenal.

“When my book first came out in ‘95 magic was a sleepy profession,” he said. “In ‘96 magic was a revolution.”

“The industry has been revitalized by the trend to expose magic.”

Subtitled The Street Magician Revealed, Becker claims the new book is constructed as his others are, by reverse engineering the effects to find the most likely solution. Although, in comparison to his other big illusion reveals, the “secrets” behind Blaine’s stunts will focus less on the methods behind his tricks (which according to Becker are rarely longer than a paragraph) and more on Blaine’s hype.

Receiving even shorter shrift is apparently Blaine’s street magic. Becker told iTricks he plans to reveal only a hand full of those.

In the plainest terms, David Blaine has absolutely no involvement in the project and although Becker said that he “put out feelers” to try and contact him, the two have never spoken. Becker does admit to having contact with those who have worked for the Brooklyn magician during his research.

“I think there is a bit of a fear factor,” said Becker on why he doesn’t expect to hear from Blaine.

As listed on Amazon.com, the book is due to be released tomorrow (January 31st), however Becker said he is delaying its release until 2008 to accommodate Blaine’s next special which he believes will take place in May of this year. He also said he may include a chapter of all the hate mail he receives.

Past that, he said he is already planning and researching his next project.

“We do have interest in Criss Angel,” he said.

When asked about the book, David Blaine’s production office said they had no comment. When asked specifically for reaction about Becker holding his book off for a May special, a Blaine source responded, “What May special?”

iTricks Roundup: Mindfreak DVD Deal

Mindfreak Box Set

If you were waiting for Criss Angel’s DVDs to get packaged and discounted before picking them up, well wait no longer. This is from No Brainer Deals.com…

Set includes Mindfreak Season 1, Mindfreak Season 2, Halloween Special all packaged in a lenticular outer slipcase. As the box is rotated, Criss slowly disappears from the package, and the Mindfreak logo moves up and down on the spine of the box.

Amazon.com lists this at $51.99 but these guys are peddling the set for $24.97 and in a clever upsell tactic, all orders over $25 get free shipping. Of course, the worst thing about buying the box set? Conflicted feeling over buying the one that will come out after Season 3.
