Sugar High By Chris Randall

A spectator is handed a sugar packet from the table and asked to hold on to it. A box of crayons are introduced and the spectator is asked to select a color. For our example, the spectator chooses green. A green crayon is taken out of the box and is waved over the sugar packet till it changes to a white crayon. The sugar packet is then torn open and when the sugar is poured out, it’s now green sugar.

SIGNED NOTE TO SHARPIE – PRINTED EDITION

Sharp Money is Ben Williams’ take on the signed note or bill to impossible location.

A spectator signs their note and the pen stays in view the whole time, the spectator can even hold onto it. The magician then rolls the note up and performs a series of vanishes and reproductions with the note before completely vanishing their signed note.

After some by play the magician takes the pen back from the spectator and draws attention to it. He works the pen back and forth detaching the base of the pen from the tip exposing where the ink cartridge is. However, now INSIDE the pen where the ink cartridge should be there is a rolled up note! This is never touched by the magician and it is handed to the spectator, the spectator takes the rolled up note out themselves and unroll it to find it does indeed have their signature. With Thought Wave Gary and Mark has taken a principle and given it a new lease of life with an incredible mind reading card routine.

Effect
You start by writing a prediction (sight unseen) on a business card, Post- it note etc. The card is folded and placed on full view on the table.

A small card which contains 52 different symbols is examined by your spectator who then merely thinks of one of the symbols.

You now write something on another card and once again fold it and place it in full view. At this point you have committed to two predictions without your spectator giving you any information.

You then ask your spectator to draw his symbol on the outside of the first piece of paper. The second prediction is now placed onto the spectators hand and they name aloud the first playing card that comes in to their mind (absolutely no force) they now write their thought of card on your second prediction.

You now draw attention to a deck of cards which has been on the table since the start of the effect. The cards are removed and shown to have images on the back of each one. You remove their freely chosen card and the card with the freely chosen image on its back.

I bet you can see where this is going!! Your spectator now opens your first prediction (the one they have drawn their image on) and it reads the 5 of clubs. When they turn over the card it is in fact the 5 of clubs!! You now state that the second prediction was even harder as the spectator could name any card. When they open prediction number 2 they see you have drawn a clock. They turn over their freely named card only to reveal a clock on the back!!!

This really is a 100% commercial routine that has been well thought out and packs a very big punch!

A new comedy mental effect based on a new term UNSHOP, which means to return something at the checkout-counter because you bought too much and cannot afford it.

The performer invites a male participant to take an imaginary shopping trip. He is told to imagine he has gone to a store and is going to buy a new outfit. His new outfit will consist of a sports coat, shirt, necktie, pants, socks, shoes, and even a pair of boxer shorts. He is told that when he gets to the checkout-counter, he discovers he does not have enough money with him and has to return something to the shelf. The participant then decides on an article of clothing to UNSHOP and is given the chance to change his mind. He does not tell the performer yet, the article he returned. The performer shows a large envelope and says inside is a prediction showing the returned article of clothing. The performer pulls out a large barcode and says this is the barcode for the article (an old gag, but with a new kicker ending). The envelope is shown to be otherwise empty. Performer then asks the participant which article of clothing he returned.

Assume the participant said, “Pants.”

Performer exclaims he was correct, insisting that this is the barcode for a pair of pants. Finally, as a means
of self-defense, the performer says on the other side is a picture of the store’s model wearing the participant’s new outfit; minus the item he UNSHOPPED.

Upon turning the barcode around, the performer shows a comical photo of a man wearing a sports coat, shirt, necktie, socks, shoes and boxer shorts…however, he is missing the pants. The performer says, “You should have kept the pants!”

A very commercial effect that breathes new life into the old barcode gag.
